Who We Are

This platform is a collective effort for water and soil management in rainfed agriculture.

Since 2015, ASA has worked with farming communities and agricultural institutions across Central America and Mexico to understand the challenges, practices and local conditions that have led to massive soil degradation and to outline the steps needed to reverse that trend.

Partnerships in every country where we work include a diverse array of civil society organizations, local and national governments, academia and the private sector. The ASA approach has been refined over years of Catholic Relief Services programming across Latin America.

Today, ASA’s local and national partners are working with tens of thousands of farmers to boost yields and incomes and protect precious water resources by restoring soil health. Together, we have trained more than 40,000 people to implement ASA practices. More than 3,000 farmers in five countries are now demonstrating the benefits of Water-Smart Agriculture. With ASA’s proven focus on soil and water management, we’re working across the region to transform deteriorated farming landscapes so that the benefits can be passed from generation to generation.

ASA in Action

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) works with local and national partners to increase the crop yields and incomes of thousands of families, by restoring soil health and protecting precious water resources. The ASA approach has been refined over years of CRS agricultural programming across Latin America. Past and present programs have helped build a body of knowledge, tools and skillsets that feed innovation and fuel our ambitions to connect even more communities with the far-reaching benefits of water-smart agriculture.  Public and private sector allies, along with a diverse array of civil society organizations, are our partners on this journey. Join the ASA community and help us extend the impact of Water-Smart Agriculture in the region.
